Your Toddler Dance Questions Answered!
Do parents stay in toddler dance classes?
Yes! Our toddler dance classes are designed as a special experience for children and their favorite grown-up to enjoy together.
Having a parent or caregiver nearby helps toddlers feel safe and confident as they explore movement, music, and new skills. These classes create a gentle introduction to the dance studio while building comfort and independence for future classes.
What happens if my toddler doesn’t participate the whole time?
That’s completely okay! Toddlers learn in many different ways, and sometimes watching, observing, or staying close to their grown-up is part of the process.
Our teachers understand young children and create a welcoming environment where dancers are encouraged to participate at their own pace. Over time, many children who start out watching from the sidelines grow into confident little dancers who are excited to join the fun.
We celebrate progress, not perfection!
What if my dancer cries or has a hard time joining class?
First, please know this is completely normal! For many toddlers, dance class is one of their very first experiences in a structured classroom environment, and every child adjusts at their own pace.
Some dancers jump right in on day one, while others need time to observe, cuddle close to their grown-up, or get comfortable with a new space before participating.
Our experienced teachers understand toddler development and will gently encourage your child while helping them build confidence.
Every small step matters, whether it’s walking into the studio, trying one activity, or joining the whole class. We’re here to celebrate your dancer’s progress and help create a positive first experience with dance!
What should my toddler wear to dance class?
Getting ready for your first dance class is part of the excitement! Our toddler dancers wear dance attire that helps them feel comfortable, confident, and ready to move.
Girls wear a pink leotard (skirt optional), pink tights, and pink ballet shoes. Boys wear a white or black shirt, black pants, and black ballet shoes.
Need help getting started? We've got you covered! Everything your little dancer needs is available in our NHAD boutique and online boutique, making it easy to find the perfect fit before your first class.
How do I know when my child is ready for an independent preschool dance class?
Every child develops at their own pace. Some toddlers are eager to dance independently right away, while others benefit from more time with their grown-up nearby.
Signs your child may be ready for an independent preschool dance class include beginning to separate comfortably from a caregiver, showing interest in following along with a teacher, and enjoying group activities with other children.
Our teachers will help guide your family through each step of the journey and recommend the class where your child will feel most confident and successful.
Our independent classes begin at age 2, with dancers turning 2 by Oct 1 of that school year.
